Money Held or Frozen: Step by Step
TL;DR
- Save the notice, then get the reason and next step in writing
- Bills due now? Count cleared bank cash, then ask suppliers about a payment plan
- A slice withheld points to a reserve. A stopped payout needs its own status check
- Each step links the section of Money Held or Frozen that has the detail
Your processor's holding your money. Here's the order to work in, one step at a time. The detail, and the sources, are on Money Held or Frozen.
- Save the notice. Open your account directly and save the notice, amount, date, case number and deadline. Mark each amount held, scheduled, sent or unknown. Assess the notice
- And cover bills due now. Count cleared bank cash, and keep an unconfirmed payout out of it. Call the supplier before the bill's overdue and ask about a written payment schedule. Bills due now
- Ask for the reason in writing. Ask what's held, why, what they need from you, and whether the next date is a review or a release. The question to send
- Match what you see to the hold. A slice withheld points to a reserve. A stopped payout needs its own status check. What does your notice say?
- Follow your provider's path. Each one has its own screens: Stripe, Shopify Payments, Square, United States, PayPal, United States
- Or documents requested. Send them through the notice's verified upload route by its deadline, and save the confirmation. Don't keep sending the same file without an answer. Respond to the request
- Or your account was closed. Ask about the balance separately from reinstatement. Your closed account's balance
- Get the terms. Ask which event starts the clock, what releases the money, and what's deducted. A review date isn't a release date. What terms apply?
- No answer? Ask for risk or underwriting. Not frontline support. Keep the case number and replies together. If they're unresponsive
- And ask for a review if something's changed. Explain what's changed with facts and dates, without assuming a reduction. Can I ask for a reserve review?
- Keep taking payments if you can. Check whether your account can still accept payments. A second processor account doesn't release the first one's held money. Taking payments while funds are held
